Who is James Hampton?

How many times in your life have you talked about, "that guy/woman who played that character," but you couldn't remember their name?  Well, James Hampton appeared in several movies and TV shows for over three decades, but people didn't always remember his name.

This was so common, Johnny Carson made his audience raise their right hand and pledge to remember the name - James Hampton.  However, that funny story is just one of many interspersed in a Hollywood life that seems too good to be true.
